We leave Sheffield Centre at 10am sharp and head for the hills, travelling via Baslow, we arrive at Rowsley around 11.20am stopping at the Peak Village Shopping Centre and Cordwell’s Mill, not only a heritage visitor centre but a working mill, producing high quality flour available to purchase in the Mill Shop.

You can take a look at the craft activities taking place here in the outbuildings, including pottery, glassware and a blacksmith as well as a well stocked gift shop and an award winning cafe specialising in Vegetarian dishes (try the Homity Pie and their famous salad – VERY NICE!).

We leave Rowsley at around

1.30pm and head for Bakewell. Set on the banks of the River Wye and known as “The Ancient Capital of the Peak District”, Bakewell is a beautiful market town famed for its Bakewell Puddings and the thriving livestock market held here every Monday.  The village lies in the heart of the Peaks, surrounded by fantastic scenery and originally an Iron Age settlement following discovery of thermal springs, it is mentioned in the Domes Day Book of 1085 as “Badequella” meaning Bath-well!

Enjoy a look around the many shops and admire the fine stone buildings and have a spot of lunch (unless you are full up with Homity Pie!) in one of the many cafes and pubs or picnic by the sparkling clear waters of the river.

Have a stroll over to the market if it’s Monday and see the fascinating Livestock Auction in full swing, but make sure you don’t inadvertently nod or raise your hand – we haven’t got room on the coach for full grown bullock!

There is much to look at here and you will have plenty of time to explore this popular town before we gather together back at our coach for a 4pm return trip to Sheffield arriving around 5.30pm and in need of a well deserved lie down to sleep off those cream teas!
